PRAYING FOR POWER

Psalm 88:9, Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.

            Calling to the Lord. Crying out to God. Whispering a prayer. I don’t care how you communicate with the Lord, just do it. It is the believer’s source of strength. The access we have to God surpasses any other resource that we have in our tool box Christian friend! There isn’t anywhere that it cannot be accessed. Elijah called out under the juniper tree. Paul prayed in prison. Jesus prayed on the Cross.

            We can call Him in our times of tribulations. We can call out to Him in times of sorrow. We can call out to Him for power, wisdom, health, strength, and even victory! But when is the last time you called out to the Lord to just thank Him for the blessings He gives?  

BE STRONG  

The source of our strength is in the Word of God.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalm 19:7-10

There is no other place for a Christian to go than the Word of God to obtain strength. Every time the binder of a Bible is bent, on the pages before the one reading it is power like none other. There is power to restore marriages, to heal the broken hearts, and to save souls from hell. The catch is we have to open the Bible, read the powerful Words written on the pages, and then apply them to our life!

Will you invest time in the Word today? If you do, you will become strong for the Lord!

GOT STRENGTH?

For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Psalm 43:2

In 1993, the Milk Processor Education Program started running a campaign to help promote the sale of milk. The “Got Milk” slogan was promoted by media, sporting, and entertainment celebrities. The message of these commercials was that milk was the source of strength to become famous athletes, rock stars, or other celebrities. The success of this campaign ran for 21 years and boosted milk sales to record levels.

            Child of God, our strength comes from God. It comes from His Son! John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. It comes from His Word! John 17:17, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. It comes from His Spirit! John 16:13, Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

            When we have to do the hard things in life, standing up against temptation, loving our enemies, or facing life’s storms when they come, we can rest in our Saviour by knowing He is our strength and He will strengthen us!

WHY SHOULD I READ THE BIBLE?

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16                  

      According to Barna Research group, only 56% of Practicing Christians read scripture regularly. Wow, 56%! Now, think about that for a moment… a little more than half of the people reading this post will make an effort to pick up their Bibles and read it today. I wonder if we took a pole who would make up that 44%? Would it be a Sunday School teacher? Would it be a Junior Church worker? Would it be a Pastor, preacher, evangelist, or missionary?

Reading the Bible is essential for our edification!

Once again, my list isn’t exhaustive…

A.         It powers our Faith-

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” John 20:31

B.         It direct our Footsteps-

”Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

C.         It delivers us from Failing in our temptations- ”There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

       How faithful are you to your Bible reading? I recently heard this quote, “Those who spend more time reading books about the Bible than they do reading the Bible are likely to be influenced more by what men said about the Bible than by what God said in the Bible.” R. B. Ouellette.

If you knew you would get a raise if you worked every day for the next month, you would be at work early every day. Yet, there is a 100% guarantee that God will grow your faith through the preaching of His Word and you neglect it. Paul Chappell said, “What if the sermon you deliberately missed was meant to change your entire life for the better?”

Child of God, GET UP, GET READY, and GO TO CHURCH! Not just today but every time the doors are open!

Power in prayer!

The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Proverbs 15:29

Prayer is essential to a Christian’s life. While He gave us His Word in the Bible we have opportunity after opportunity to respond to Him in prayer. Sometimes it can be a simple such as, “Help Lord.” While at other times you enter your prayer closet, closing the door behind you, and spend unlimited amount of time with Him. One missionary said, “Find a place to get alone with God and don’t leave until you have an answer to your prayers.”

Have you been neglecting opportunities to pray to our Saviour? Begin today spending a little time with Him and I promise you, it will be the best investment you have ever made!

Prayer Works!

It's Sunday morning. Approximately 2 hours before Sunday School. Teachers, have you been praying for your students? 3 hours before the Preaching hour. Pastor/ Preacher, have you been praying for the congregation? Church member, have you been praying for your teachers and your Pastor?

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

Oh what a different it will make in services across the globe if we would learn the power of prayer once again!
